Here's a five-minute check that catches almost every mistake.

1. Measure the wall it's going against

Grab the sofa's width from the product page (the dimension along the front) and measure the wall you're planning to put it against. Leave at least 10–15 cm of breathing room on each side — a sofa jammed wall-to-wall looks cramped and makes the room feel smaller, not bigger.

Rule of thumb: your sofa should take up no more than about two-thirds of the wall it sits on.

2. Check the walkway, not just the footprint

This is the step everyone skips. A sofa's depth is usually 90–100 cm, and you need a clear path in front of it. Aim for:

  • At least 75 cm of walking space in front of the sofa
  • 30–45 cm between the sofa and a coffee table (close enough to reach a drink, far enough for legs)

If those numbers don't survive the sofa's depth plus the room's depth, you've found your problem before it arrived on a truck.

3. Don't forget the door swing and the corners

Two silent room-killers:

  1. Doors — an inward-swinging door needs its arc kept clear. A sofa that blocks a door by even a few centimetres is a daily annoyance.
  2. Getting it in — measure the narrowest point on the delivery path: doorways, the turn at the top of the stairs, the lift. A sofa that fits the room but not the hallway is still a return.

4. See it, don't just calculate it

Numbers tell you if it fits. They don't tell you how it feels — whether the room still breathes, whether the proportions are right, whether that bold colour works against your actual wall.
